The name SwivelHouse was inspired by the Black Mariah… no not the one mentioned in the song "The Guns of Brixton" by the Clash but Thomas Edison’s movie production studio in West Orange, NJ.
The Black Mariah was built to provide large and consistent amounts of natural light for Edison’s movie productions. It had a huge retractable ceiling that opened up to let in sunlight and was built on a turntable so the building could rotate throughout the day toward the sun.
And like the Black Mariah, SwivelHouse addresses every challenge by pivoting from its foundation, constantly moving towards a solution.
